Great News and Sad News

I'm going to start with some great news for our basketball program. Ray Brown was deemed eligible to play right away by the NCAA. We are still awaiting word from our league, the MIAC, and what they rule but it would certainly be tough to turn him down after the NCAA already ruled him eligible. Ray gives us probably the most talented player in D3 and one of the best frontcourts (I think) in country with Ray and Carl Hipp.

Practice has been going well. We are leaps and bounds ahead of where we were last season. We can actually score in tough situations and we have a bunch of guys that can create for themselves and for teammates. Hopefully, their hardwork will continue as the season progresses.

Some sad news in the Hamline basketball community as Joe Hutton Jr. passed on Monday. Joe was an integral part of the great Hamline teams in the early 1950s. He also played for the Minneapolis Lakers and won an NBA championship while playing with George Mikan. Joe was around as much as he could. He would sit down talk about the program and he was very supportive of us turning the program around. There is more information about him at the Hamline athletics website.
