Augsburg 2/1/12

On Wednesday night we took on the Auggies from Augsburg in a crucial MIAC matchup. Due to a scheduling snafu we played them for the second time in ten days. They are always a tough matchup because they run about 759 different sets. Much different than us.

We got off to a decent start but with the way we were playing it was obvious that we couldn't sustain the unorganized chaos that our guys decided to play like. We definitely want chaos but not with the unorganized defense, the one pass 3's, and the bull in a china shop drives on the first catch. Augsburg proceeded to go on a 16-0 run near the end of the first half that really put us in a hole.

Second half started much the same as everything we talked about at halftime went right out the window. We dug ourselves an even bigger whole and then once again battled back like we have many times this year. We didn't quite make it back and ended up losing 99-91.

I am convinced at this point of the season that our guys are afraid of success. We have played well for stretches in games as well as a series of games but never consistently. The guys do what we tell them to do for a while and then all of a sudden they revert back to the way they want to play. It's very disappointing to say the least.

We have 5 games left in the regular season. We could have more in the playoffs. It's a very tight race for the final couple of spots. We are making changes today to the lineup and hopefully that will light a fire under some guys' behinds. If it doesn't we will go with someone else.
